Star Trek: Season One, Episode # 3

In Star Trek The Original Series on Monday, October 6, 2008 at 12:26 AM

Space, the final frontier. These are the voyages of the starship Enterprise. Her 5-year mission: To explore strange new worlds. To seek out new life forms and new civilizations. To boldly go where no man has gone before.

Starring William Shatner, Leonard Nimoy, DeForest Kelley, Nichelle Nichols, Grace Lee Whitney

Guest Star: Robert Walker Jr.

Teleplay by Gene Roddenberry and D.C. Fontana, directed by Lawrence Dobkin

The episode revolves around a teenager named Charlie (Robert Walker Jr., son of actors Robert Walker and Jennifer Jones), who comes aboard the Enterprise under unusual circumstances. Later, when it is almost too late, Captain Kirk and his crew find out that Charlie has fantastic mental powers that he uses to cause chaos and mayhem. The heart of the story is the fascinating relationship between Kirk, McCoy and Spock. They are the backbone of the program. It is the first show that establishes the structure of the series. It goes something like this: there is a problem, Spock will suggest something that McCoy will challenge, and Kirk is left to make a decision based on what his two trusted allies have suggested. It is worth noting that  Uhura has more screen time than usual (she even sings a couple of songs), and actress Nichelle Nichols does an excellent job with the opportunity a few extra scenes have given her. Scotty and Chekov are still missing, and Sulu has no participation.
