Private Lessons (1981, Alan Myerson)

Private Lessons is part of the colossal wave of teen comedies that hit American movie theaters in the 1980s. The once-popular sex symbol Sylvia Kristel stars as a housekeeper who tries to seduce a rich kid (newcomer Eric Brown, who gives a terrible performance). It is not a good film, not even when it is compared to movies like Porky’s or Class. I’ve seen worse, but it is not funny enough to be categorized as a cult film and/or guilty pleasure material. But, it is interesting to see how people’s attitudes have changed in a relatively short period of time. A 15-year-old kid having sex with an adult is no longer a funny thing to witness. It is actually kind of creepy to see how the movie not only condones, but encourages pedophilia. It was a box office hit back in 1981, but I doubt this kind of movie could be made today. Anyhow, like many teen films from the period, Private Lessons does have an excellent music soundtrack. And of course, Kristel is peachy.

  1. I saw the film and it was OK. I’d give it a 5 on a scale of 1 to 10.
The boy’s ‘bad’ performance kind of fits in with the awkwardness of his being a virgin being seduced by the housekeeper. Basically ~~> yeah, it’s dumb, but I stayed with it. Maybe it was the housekeepers’ nude scenes ? LOL
